  11.     The cooling turn performed last week by the Galileo
  12. spacecraft did not result in low enough temperatures to release
  13. the few antenna ribs apparently bound by friction to the
  14. antenna's central tower, Galileo project officials said today.
  15.     Another cooling turn is being planned for December 1991 when
  16. Galileo is farther from the sun; additional actions will be taken
  17. at that time to cool the antenna tower further.  These cooling
  18. turns are part of a series of steps the project believes will be
  19. required ultimately to deploy the antenna, the officials said;
  20. each step yields valuable data to help with the design of
  21. spacecraft actions in the next step. 
  22.     For the next two months, the Galileo flight team will
  23. concentrate on the final preparations for Galileo's October 29
  24. encounter with the asteroid Gaspra.  This will be the first
  25. spacecraft asteroid encounter.  
  26.     Galileo's high-gain antenna is not essential for mission
  27. operations until the spacecraft is in orbit around Jupiter in
  28. December 1995, project officials said.
  29.     The Galileo project is managed for NASA's Office of Space
  30. Science and Applications by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
